The Brief
Clacton Air Show in an annual event that takes place between Clacton Pier and the Martello Tower. Typically, the two-day event attracts audiences of around 200,000.
Recognising a need to maintain a safe public environment, Tendering District Council appointed Stage Security to provide SIA-licensed security staff to help manage the event on the day and to provide overnight security for the event arena, the exhibitors and their goods. The client also required that our teams direct the positioning of exhibitors as they arrived, making sure they set up according to the agreed plan.
Another key requirement was to provide response teams, composed of SIA-licensed event security staff, who would patrol the event, becoming a point of contact for all attendees.
Finally, VIP security would be required for a variety of dignitaries, who would be established in a special VIP area.
The Result
In preparation for the event, we liaised with CCTV providers, police and the local authority to ensure all emergency parties were kept informed of the plan, traffic arrangements and any incidents that might subsequently arise.
On the day, we enforced the road closure and one-way system that was put in place for the event. This extended to and from the seafront, diverting all traffic and keeping the newly pedestrianised areas safe. Our teams delivered all the required support, taking particular account of:
- Vulnerable people
- Instances of disorder
- A ‘zero tolerance’ policy on alcohol, drugs and weapons
- Missing persons
Throughout the event, we maintained a secure VIP area and kept the exhibition arena secure at all times. We also maintained a continuous dialogue with other agencies on site, starting each morning with a daily briefing.
