1 Big Multicultural Festival has become an annual public event that draws together people from different faiths and community backgrounds.
Our first involvement came in 2014, when we were asked by the organiser, the Bangladeshi Support Centre, to provide a security plan and on-site support. The festival was expected to attract several thousand visitors, who would be treated to a mix of live music and dance, different world cuisines, and sports including five-a-side football and a Kabaddi competition. There would also be more than 50 information stalls, various stall, entertainments and more.
We began by reviewing the site and proposing a range of measures including the supply of uniformed stewards who could help with parking, directions and general information in answer to visitors’ questions. We also ensured that there was adequate provision for first aid and emergency vehicle access, and that the local authority was kept fully informed.
The event provided fun for families and visitors of all ages – drawing an estimated audience of 8,000. We managed the crowds courteously and discreetly, helping to earn the event a positive reputation that persists to this day.
