The Maritime Festival ipswichThis is then followed by the annual Maritime Ipswich Festival, which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend (23rd – 26th August). The waterfront will be a hive of activity as Ipswich celebrates its rich and colourful maritime history.

Maritime weekend is set to be jam packed with things to do to keep the whole family entertained. Make time to check out the pop-up maritime museums – featuring Broke and the Shannon. Head to the waterfront to see the ASTO sailing yachts arrival and mooring; they’ll be located near UCS, so don’t miss out on your chance to climb aboard on Saturday and over the weekend on the water. You can also check out a range of stunning art available at the UCS Art Ahoy exhibition in the UCS foyer. Enjoy a great selection of food, gifts and goodies at the Continental Market on the waterfront near Orwell Quay or wander along the waterfront towards DanceEast where there will be a Maritime themed market throughout the weekend.

The festival also sees the return of the annual Ipswich Beer Festival which will be in full flow from the Thursday afternoon right through until Monday, serving a range or beers, ciders and food, again down on Orwell Quay. There will also be live music, food stalls, a craft market and much more, all adding to the sense of occasion.

The Maritime Festival ipswichThere will also be a chance for visitors to learn more about Ipswich’s maritime history with historical re-enactments happening across the weekend. This year’s line up also includes historic vessels, beautiful yachts, continental markets, Georgian re-enactments, popular music and entertainment.  The Maritime Festival was a fantastic event enjoyed by people of all ages.
